2018  Regeneration/Italy

From  Calamity  to  Rebirth  Arte Sella is a unique phenomenon. It is a natural museum, set under the open sky, nearly untouched by humans. Harmonious with the nature surrounding it, it is a tribute to the beauty of nature. The storm that destroyed parts of this reservoir is an awful thing to happen, but it is forever part of the history of this place and an important part of its rebirth.  This project is inspired by nature - more specifically the biology of plants. Each building is designed according to the 'self-similarity' of plants -the anatomy of a single plant cell repeats itself and creates the pattern of the entire plant.  The buildings are harmoniously incorporated into the drop-back of the reservoir, preserving the natural integrity of the park. Each building tells the story of Arte Sella, from calamity to rebirth. The Museum Is at the beginning of the Arte Sella's story, physically and conceptually. Physically, it is located at the entrance of the park, and you must pass it in order to continue the tour. The facade of the museum is made of charred wooden blocks, giving it a dark, bit grim look. Conceptually, the museum is the storm that happened in the area. Inside the museum reminds the woods around it, dimly lit so when you walk through it, it is like a bit of light glimmering through the forest canopy. Walking through it, it displays the history of Arte Sella and various artworks. On the roof, there is an observatory, so visitors can view the park and the installations from up there. At the end of the museum is an exit to a patio garden. The garden symbolizes the end of the storm, and the beginning of hope and restoration .A shift from the darkness into the light. The Artist Atelier Located in Malga Costa, and functions as quarters for the artists to live in, sleep eat, and create. The artists' houses are completely submerged into the surrounding nature, due to the raised floor and translucent cladding. The base of the house is made of wood and built on wooden columns 3m' high like the trees around and offers the passing visitors a seamless walk in the park. The wood cladding morphs into glass, creating an effect of almost see-through house. The translucent house is one with the nature surrounding it, undisturbing.
